A
Munich landmark one can find on virtually every picture
postcard of the city. The monumental late gothic brick
church has shaped Munich's skyline for 500 years -
built
in 1494, the church saw its share of history, including
heavy bomb damage in world war II. The towers are almost
100
meters
high and are not only
an
impressive
sight but the south tower is also accessible via an
elevator. From up there, one enjoys a magnificent view
over downtown Munich. For those with an interest in
medieval art, the Frauenkirche has quite a number of
masterpieces inside - oil paintings, wooden altars and
luxurious tombs of Bavarian rulers can be found here.
The church becomes especially impressive at night when
the entire
façade
is illuminated.
