The Sommersalon is a relaxed, plushy red chillout bar on Spielbudenplatz, one of the centers of St. Pauli nightlife. What once started as a temporary location that was supposed to make room for a building project, with the project dismissed, is now a great place for summer vibes in Hamburg. In summer, the outside area in front is lined with chairs and the ambience has lots of a lively piazza, St. Pauli style. The crowd that frequents the Sommersalon has changed, too: what used to be a mostly gay bar is now open to everyone, and everyone seems to enjoy the offer. Sommersalon is musically diverse, too, from Hip Hop to electronic sounds or soul, every night is different. There are French nights including chansons, French fingerfood and wine, but check the current program for what´s going on. Sommersalon is worth a pitstop year-round, but naturally during summer is the ideal time to spend a few hours here.
