HAMBURG
Hamburg is Germany's second largest city and a fascinating
international metropolis that is diverse and has many
different faces to discover. The long Hanseatic tradition
of trade with the world has made Hamburg a cosmopolitan
city that is called "Germany's gate to the world"
for a reason. The municipal area with its 755 square
kilometers is seven times the size of Paris and 2 ½
times that of London. With 30 square meters living space
per person, Hamburg enjoys the largest average personal
living space of all big cities in the world.
The international character of Hamburg is best shown
in the number of foreign consulates: with more than
90 consulates, Hamburg ranks second only to New
York as the city with the most consulates in the world.
The Hamburg harbour is Europe's second largest port
and ranks seventh in the world with roughly 85 million
tons of wares being handled here every year. The media
business also plays an important role in Hamburg: just
as Cologne is the city of TV, Hamburg is the city of
print: more than 50% of all newspapers produced in Germany
are produced here, and accordingly many large publishing
houses and advertising agencies reside in Hamburg.
This city is definitely worth a visit: from the St.
Pauli nightlife action to a seafood dinner with a view
of the harbour, from a walk through the parks, along
the Elbchaussee, the historic
Speicherstadt or the picturesque Alster - Hamburg offers
plenty that is worth discovering. The Locationsite tourguides
