If you're looking for the perfect cocktail in Hamburg we'd recommend Christiansen´s Bar. The bar is located between Fischmarkt and the Reeperbahn and is thus an ideal starting or ending point for a nightly tour of St. Pauli, no matter in which direction you're headed. The bar itself is comfortable and spacious, with extras like an aquarium in the rear end wall and other unusual decorations, but the real attraction is the barkeeper. Uwe Christiansen himself mixes the drinks here, and it's for good reason he made a second place in the German cocktail - mixing championships. The Christiansen´s was voted best bar 1998 by Playboy magazine and features countless other awards. We tried his skills and must admit that the original Singapore Sling (he told us he got the recipe from the Raffles Singapore barkeeper himself, though only through bribery) served in an authentic Raffles Singapore glass really was something else. We've gone back at least once a year since 2001 and we've never been disappointed - Uwe is still at the bar himself despite managing several cocktail bars across Hamburg now, and we still haven't found better cocktails or a more carefully compiled cocktail list, with funny anecdotes and little stories about every drink on the menu.
