The
Tiergarten is Berlin's largest park and is located right
in the geographical center of the city. It used to be
a huge forest area just outside of Berlin that the royalty
hunted in and got turned into a park when the growing
city engulfed it. Most of the trees burned down in the
last war, and what remained was
used for firewood
by
the Berliners, so the trees are actually
rather young. Today, the Tiergarten
is a popular, heavily frequented park with playgrounds,
soccer fields, barbecue areas and beer gardens that
Berliners and tourists alike populate in the summer.
A green oasis right in the heart of the city - great
for a walk, running or taking the dog out as so many
people do here.
