After the reunification, it didn't take long before
new, innovative gastronomic concepts and locations started
to populate the Eastern part of Berlin, among them the
Ristorante
"Il
Pane e le Rose", meaning
"the bread and the rose". This comfortable
and unpretentious, but yet elegant Italian gourmet
temple in Friedrichshain has now been established for
a while and is still popular and heavily frequented.
The menu of the Il Pane e le Rose changes twice daily
and lists such Italian delicacies as Carpaccio with
white truffles, gnocchi and pizza and pasta variations
galore. The clientele here is young and trendy, but
not too hip as the Il Pane e le Rose is mainly frequented
by actors, journalists and the like. In summer, there's
an outside patio for dining underneath picturesque rose
bushes - an excellent location with superb Italian kitchen
and moderate prices - recommended!
