NIGHTLIFE
- that meant long, excessive club nights in underground
techno clubs, semi-illegal raves in old warehouses and
names like Marusha, Dr. Motte or Sven Väth for
almost a decade in post-reunification Berlin. If you
stroll through the "in-parts" of Berlin today,
you will see that Mitte, Kreuzberg or Prenzlauer Berg
are undergoing a substantial image change. Old concepts
have lost their attraction for many, and the ravers
of the first days in Berlin have either arrived in the
establishment or are simply partied out - which is why
relaxed cocktail lounges, juicebars and stylish sushi
restaurants are becoming more and more popular even
in Berlin. In the wake of the 80s revival, clubs are
turning to the old sounds and dance classics - as a
common sociological trend, people in these hard times
seem to prefer simple pleasures, and easy dance-along
mainstream party music is one of the things to emerge
from this trend. It's already becoming harder to find
the typical techno scene that formed the local nightlife
trends for the past ten years; the Tresor, Berlin's
landmark techno club, was torn down and generally, with
the new millennium, the scene is moving on to different
things. Coexistence of old and new nightlife classics
is one of the things that makes Berlin so exciting and
dynamic, however, and our selection of the most important
clubs and nightlife hotspots will hopefully inspire
you to an extensive exploration of the Berlin scene!
